Getting started with Starhive part 1 - database

Getting started with Starhive > part 1 - database

The foundation of any app, in Starhive or otherwise, is data. Whether you are creating an asset management system, an HR onboarding tool, or a project management app, you need to have some form data. Assets, employees, tasks etc are all types of data.

In this blog, you’ll learn how to set up your database structure, add data objects (both manually and via import), and build relationships between data objects.

If you have a question that is not covered here, please get in touch at help@starhive.com.

1. Learn about Workspaces

Get a quick introduction to the Starhive environment and how your data is organised and accessed.

2. Learn how to create a Space

Spaces keep your data organised into logical groups with different access permissions.

3. Create Object Types for your data

Whatever data you want to store, be it asset data, people data, purchase records, etc, you need to create an Object Type that defines what the data is.

4. Define the attributes of an Object

Your object type also includes the Attributes that make up your data. If you’re more comfortable with spreadsheets/traditional databases, attributes are similar to are your column headings.

5. Use AI to accelerate your setup

Learn how to get a helping hand creating your Spaces, Object Types, and Attributes with AI. You will get a good starting point that you can tailor to your individual needs.

6. Creating your first Object

Once you have a Space with an Object Type and its Attributes defined, it’s time to create an object. In this video you’ll learn how to do it manually but in later videos you can learn how to import objects in bulk.

7. Creating relationships between Objects

Now that you know how to create Objects you can start to build relationships between them to keep better track of your data and make decisions easier.

8. Importing Objects

If you already have data stored elsewhere, it’s important you learn how to efficiently import your data into Starhive so you can start working with it

Step 2: adding logic

Now you know how to work with your database. The next step is to use Starhive workflows and automations to apply some logic to your database and start building out your processes.
